Nothing beats the morning chill than a hot bowl of porridge topped with strawberry jam for breakfast.

If the thought of buying store bought jams sends your blood sugar in a frenzy then you might want to give this sugar-free jam recipe a go.

Making sugar free strawberry or any berry jam is super easy!

This recipe is great for diabetics and makes the perfect topping for pancakes, porridge, and yoghurt!

Simple Sugar-Free Berry Jam Recipe

All you need is some frozen berries (or fresh strawberries) which you will simmer until the liquid has evaporated.

And if you love your jams thick and sweet, you can add stevia or erythritol and a little bit of xanthan gum or chia seed.

How To Make Sugar Free Berry Jam

Disclaimer: I like to make simple recipes and buy food in bulk. Hence I opted for frozen mixed berries as it was what I had available. Feel free to use fresh strawberries if you like 🙂

Ingredients

  • 400 grams of frozen mixed berries (or any fresh berry of your choice)
  • 2 tbsp of water
  • 1 tsp of chia seed grounded ( or 1/4 tsp of xantham gum)
  • 1 tsp of lemon juice
  • 3 tsp of stevia (optional)

Instructions

  1. Chop the mixed berries (or blitz it in a blender) and place them in a saucepan together with the water.
  2. Bring to the boil with the lid on and turn down the heat to medium for 15 minutes.
  3. Add in lemon juice and chia seed. The lemon juice will help store the jam for longer than 1 week and prevents the growth of bacteria.
  4. If you use frozen mixed berries, the berries should be soft enough to mash with a silicone spatula. If you use fresh strawberries, you might want to mash them further with a fork.
  5. Add in grounded chia seed or xanthan gum, stir and cook on low heat for another 15 minutes.
  6. Keep stirring regularly to prevent the jam from burning.
  7. Taste the jam after 15 minutes and add stevia or erythritol if you like your jam to be sweeter.
  8. Allow the jam to cool and fill into a sterilized glass jar ( I simply reuse a cleaned glass jar). Store in the fridge.
